Jēkabpils is located in the eastern part of Latvia. The Krustpils Air Base is in the north of the city. During the Cold War, Jēkabpils was an air base of the Soviet Air Force.

  • July 1954: independent Reconnaissance Regiment ORAP (Pe-2R, Il-28R)
  • 1960 - 1977: independent Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron (MiG-15bisR, MiG-21R),
  • 1969 - 1975: independent Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron (MiG-21R)
